CERT Training Available for Montgomery County Residents

Status Update from the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management

The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management would like to invite the public to sign up for the eight week Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The 8 week CERT class is held one night a week and teaches citizens many valuable skills, and falls under FEMA’s Citizen Corps umbrella. The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management’s goal is to use these trained members as our first line of response when volunteers are needed during a disaster. During this 8 week course, citizens will be trained to help themselves, their family and neighbors in the event of a disaster if first responders cannot immediately get to you for help.

CERT Course Objectives:

Disaster Preparedness

Fire Suppression

Disaster Medical Operations

Light Search and Rescue

Terrorism Awareness

Disaster Psychology

CERT Team Organization

The CERT class is completed with a Final that emulates a disaster and allows participants to combine the skills learned and practice these skills, hands on. All classes are taught by trained professionals, and the training and supplies are FREE of charge.
